Job Role: Ghillie

 

Deveronside Fishings & Lodges is seeking an enthusiastic and conscientious Ghillie to join our team full-time, though seasonal employment may be considered. 

 

The role will include accompanying angling guests, river and bank maintenance, coordinating these jobs with others in the team and general estate maintenance.

​

The successful applicant will report to the owner and will work alongside a second ghillie and part-time members of the team.

 

Essential skills and experience

  • Hardworking and positive attitude

  • Passion for the river, fishing and the environment

  • Previous ghillying experience

  • Good communication skills

  • Motivated individual who will use initiative and can work alone as well as part of a team

  • Someone who takes pride in their work

  • Can work well as part of the existing team

  • Full driving licence

  • Good level of physical fitness for maintenance work and tasks on varying terrain

  • Competent with machinery and river maintenance equipment

 

Non-essential but desirable skills and experience

  • Fishing tutor qualification

  • PA6 certificate for spraying

  • Shotgun/firearms licence

  • Basic computer skills

 

Notes of interest

  • 6 day week during fishing season

  • Tied accommodation and work vehicle provided

  • Starting February 2023

  • Competitive salary in line with experience

 

Examples of roles within the job

  • Accompanying angling guests – providing advice and assistance on all fishing activity

  • Providing fishing tuition, to individuals and as part of fishing event days

  • Strimming

  • Mowing

  • Hogweed spraying

  • Fishing hut maintenance

  • Bank maintenance

  • Bird counts

  • General DIY, as necessary
